Description

"Then Túrin sprang about, and strode against him, and fire was in his eyes, and the edges of Gurthang shone as with flame. But Glaurung withheld his blast, and opened wide his serpent eyes and gazed upon Túrin. Without fear Túrin looked into those eyes as he raised up his sword; and straightaway he fell under the dreadful spell of the dragon, and was as one turned to stone. Thus long they stood unmoving, silent before the great Doors of Felagund."

From "The Children of Húrin" by J.R.R. Tolkien

:iconethalenskye: and me decided Ted Nasmiths' famous rendering of this scene in The Silmarillion wasn't dramtic enough, so we sort of challenged each other to make our own take on this one. So, David, here it is, my humble take on the Fall of Nargothrond! Man this one took a year off my life :D. Learned a lot doing this one, probably would do a completely different one if I were to start again.

Made the original at a size of nearly 12000 pixels... Hey! Dragons take up a lot of space...

I guess we can debate about the accuracy of things portayed here. 'Doors' of Felagund in stead of just one. The text can be a bit contradictory, or open to interpretation. Maybe Glaurung should be bigger... I don't know. But I would love to hear/see your takes on this subject.

I am satisfied for now, on to the next one :)

::EDIT::
Changed Túrins face and Glaurungs leg, better this way. This is it, no more edits ;)
