The Edain by woutart The Edain by woutart
The Host of Huor and Húrin, men of Dor-lómin, standing proud before the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Battle of Unnumbered Tears was joined. The Edain in one of their fiercest moments.

This battle has so much tragedy and iconic moments, I think I must draw one of it's action scenes, but I'm not sure which one yet. I tend to draw the moments of quiet and waiting. For me, these hold the most emotion.

Pen on paper, two page spread. I totally rediscovered pen & ink.

Hope you will enjoy.

The stories of the houses of Huor and Hurin are some of my favorites. Great looking piece.

This is incredible. There is such a heavy silence to it... knowing what happens in the battle, and all of its aftermath, makes it even more charged with emotion.

Your use of the pen and ink is masterful, too. With just a few lines, you communicate so much... I think I might have to pick up my copy again, revisit an old friend.

Were you ever thinking of colouring it, or leaving it inked?

This is sort of working my way towards a bigger colour piece about the Nirnaeth. Just getting a feel for the setting and characters involved. I think I'll leave this one as it is, for fear of destroying it's spontaniaety (did I spell that right?).

Spontaneity? (Naturalness)
Perhaps copying it and sketching in a rough colour scheme would help? It looks like a dark, gloomy scene just before a battle.

That battle is such a sad thing, it's almost painful to read. But it brings such vivid images to mind, as most of Tolkien's writing does. It's great to see how you imagine these moments :) I absolutely love this drawing. And yay for pen and ink :D
