Speedpainting 21: Ambushed by woutart Speedpainting 21: Ambushed by woutart
Concept for the RPG game a friend of mine runs. A camp filled with good guys gets surprised by a whole bunch of bad guys. The leader of the good guys gets rescued by the knight in the foreground and barely escapes.

And yes, I play, still. After 25 years. Anyway, we chose to liven up his campaign with some illustrations of key moments. Helps keep it alive.

PS / Wacom / approx 3 hrs

I really like the coloring. What kind of paint type did you use.

The digital kind ;) Hmm, not really a certain setting withing photoshop. I use a mixture of brushes. Some textured. But for hard colours I almost always revert to hard round or square brushes.

Glad you like it! And yes, I agree. My friends and me have been playing since we were twelve or thirteen. Never stopped. Every week for 25 years. Pretty awesome. Even when it's not always about the game anymore, it's a good excuse to see each other on a regular basis. Oh crap, I'm getting emotional ;)

It's pretty great to be able to keep a relationship like that going for so long. I've got a similar situation with my friends - gaming and being friends since elementary school - but you've got me beat with a weekly game. We're lucky if we can meet more than once a month for a session!

Beautiful piece for three hours of work, by the way.

Great job there! God these speedpaintings of yours are detailed, I love these bright colours.

Pfff, age is but a trivial matter. God knows how many sketches I made when I ran our group's rpg campaigns... dozens and dozens of maps, character and item illustrations, comics... I would have broken to tears if one of my players would have made something like this (well, my brother made hilarious comics about events so I can count those tears in....) XD

J, wasssuuuuup!?

Thanks matey :) I fake a lot of detail, that's why they are speeds (maybe 3 hours is too long to be called a speedpainting, but it's definitely not a 'finished painting'). The brain fills in the parts the eye does not see. But don't look too close, lots of scribbles :D

True, age is but a human invented number. I love those games and I really don't care what the world thinks about that. I have a wife, kids, job and a band to attest that I do have a life  But yes, I've been drawing rpg stuff since I started playing them, but always scribbles on the back side of character sheets :) Times I was Game Master I drew or painted situations to illustrate my story, back in the non-digital era.

Do you know the comic 'Order of the Stick'? That 'll knock your socks off. [link]

Cheers mate!

Waking slowly to the call of drawing, after a long pause :).

We see what we want to see, that's true, W. Small image looks like a damn photo!

Yep, that comic knocked my socks  few years ago when I read it to chapter #672 and haven't read it since it went to break that year. Haha, only few hundred new strips, great! 'Tis an excellent comic, D&D humour is sooo good.
