Should I go on this venture? The time has come... by woutart Should I go on this venture? The time has come... by woutart
"Will I be as sharp as I used to be, or blunted like this old axe..??"

Thorin Oakenshield, the very first fantasy figure I ever drew. I was twelve when my father gave me The Hobbit and I've been lost ever since.

Thorin as I see him, greying (he's 195 years old during the Hobbit story). Long beard, two braids in the fashion of Durin's Folk. He's is, after all, a direct descendant.

PS / Wacom / 4 hours

Thorin Oakenshield is a character of J.R.R. Tolkien, and I dearly thank him for it!

The real Thorin finally. I am not hating on the Movie Thorin it is just in the movie his beard wasn't as long as I thought it would be. If it was even there.

Hey nice job on him! Thats just about what I imagined him to be like. Could you possibly make Legolas? Im a big fan of elves. But if you dont have to of course.

Very nice mood in this image. Though not to be rude, he looks more of a wizard than a dwarf. Good work, keep it up.

Thanks! Ha! It's the grey beard and hood right ;) I'm not fond of the big ol' round karikature Dwarves. :D

Yay, more canon art! Thank you, thank you! :squee: Yep, Thorin's almost 200 when TH takes place, so his long beard more than makes sense - after all, he's had 200 years to grow it. Yes, 200, as Tolkien's Dwarves are bearded since birth. Ahem, anyway - good job on this image! Looking forward to more, both Hobbit art and Ranger art. ^ ^

 Thanks for the enthusiasm. Yeah just looked it up, he dies at 195. Movie-Thorin can't be more than 80 ;)

Ah yes, ranger art. I usually do those in winter, and it has been snowing here... :)

I like your Thorin very much. It was the composition and the light from the window that drew my eye to it, though.

Thanks for the compliment. I was inspired by some old masters who used such compositions, glad it works ;)
