King Tiger by woutart King Tiger by woutart
Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausführung B, Sd. Kfz. 182
aka Tiger II or Königstiger.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been in the making for a while, mostly because I wanted to get it right. I googled the crap out of, well, Google :) I tried about four or five different poses. This one, though not using the most exciting perspective, seemed to portay it best. Used a lot of reference, but finally used an awesome piece of 3d modelling as reference. I can't seem to find it right now cause I'd like to credit the maker of that great model. I'll put up the link asap, it's here on DA too. So if any of you find it before I do, please send me the link, hope it's still up.

It's not 100% accurate, but it depicts what I wanted it to. Awesome, forward thinking design, powerfull and intimidating. Let's all be thankfull it came too late in the war.

Made this for a good friend of mine. Intended for his birthday (29 April), hence the tank's number.

I'm glad it's done. Painting that Zimmerit-armour was a b*tch :)

Hope you enjoy!

EDIT: Found the ref here on DA, check it out, awesome model [link]

So awesome! Excellent work!

Maybe a winter camo would have been interesting, though.

A true beast of prey - Mechanically unreliable, but unbeatable in the front!

Excellent art of one of my favourite panzers!

The intuos range is maybe a bit more pricy but worth it. They are at the number 5 series now. But as example, mine are from 2005 and still going strong (both at home and in the workspace). It's a solid investment in my experience. A great tool.

Great image, really shows the menacing power of this beast. An interesting fact. The Konigstiger was armed with an 88 mm cannon and weighed about 70 tons. Compare this with the modern Abrams, which has a 120 mm gun and yet weighs 60 tons. Makes you wonder about the amount of armor the German tank carried.

Unfortunately for the Germans, it was slow and underpowered, a major problem for the Ardennes offensive in 1944. Hitler tried to repeat his success of 1940. However in that earlier campaign the German army had lighter, faster tanks that negotiated the Ardenne with ease. In 1944 the Konigstiger couldn't hope to repeat this, and with its limited numbers and massive maintenance costs, it was only a matter of time before the offensive stalled.

Damn good work on a damn powerful tank. (ps, had the war lasted a little longer, it would have met a match in the Centurion tank)

Thanks, mate! Ah yes, very true, I only recently read the Centurion was actually a 1945 model. Never even knew that, awesome piece of engineering.

There you go:
[link]

I had to do some cropping. The fine art paper prints have a nice size ratio that works. The fine art canvas also has that option, especially when it's framed. I hope with the wrapped canvas you don't lose too much of the image, the framed version seems to keep that intact. But I can imagine that would be a pricy option.

Anyway, it's up. Hope you can find an option to your liking. In any case, thanks for being interested, much appreciated.

Sure. Send me a note with your email address. I'll send the file to you. It will be framed slightly different due to it's different proportions. Or you'll get a black frame top and bottom. Your choice ;)

Awesome job here.
Like the details, and yeah, Zimmeriting is annoying to draw on. I used the photoshop texture filter in a rush just to finish my attempt of drawing the KT.

Yeah, barrel and good images on Google, I used a game called World of Tanks and used that KT model to help draw from and lighting spec.
