Thither, eastwards, unwilling Frodo's eye was drawn. It passed the ruined bridges of Osgiliath, the grinning gates of Minas Morgul and the haunted Mountains, and it looked upon Gorgoroth, the valley of terror in the Land of Mordor. Darkness lay there under the Sun. Fire glowed amid the smoke. Mount Doom was burning, and a great reek rising.
Then at last his gaze was held: wall upon wall, battlement upon battlement, black, immeasurably strong, mountain of iron, gate of steel, tower of adamant, he saw it: Barad-dûr, Fortress of Sauron. All hope left him.

Finally it hit me. One should not try to detail Barad-dûr, for it is mostly veiled in smoke and cloud. Cast in shadows. Sauron´s great fortress is a place of mystery and horror. Threatening, intimidating, or as my wife just said: "I wouldn't want to go there!". Us mere mortals should not try to unveil it, for shurely we would be damned to Udun!!
So I hope you enjoy this quick sketch, It is quite to my liking.
Here's to you for putting me up to this. I can now rest easy and put the great wheel of fire out of my mind
I must say this is probably the best depiction of Barad-Dur I´ve seen. Although in my mind it was always bigger, and stronger, and sort of, more evil-ish. Anyways this is really well done
Thanks a lot. I think the structure itself is not neccessarily designed by an evil architect, but it's more the atmosphere that makes it a bad place. I think it's a practical place, built for war. Shrouded in smoke and darkness.
Thanks mate
